During Module 5, we were introduced to Choropleth mapping using proportional or graduated symbols. For this week's assignment, we prepared a map analyzing the population density in Europe, as well as the wine consumption per capita. We had the opportunity to test the different methods of data classification with both data sets (European Population and Wine Consumption) to see which provided the most accurate representation of data on the map. Additionally, we learned about the importance of choosing the right color for the map to ensure readability for everyone. I enjoyed learning about Vischeck and the tool's ability to simulate color blindedness. Cartographers can ensure they are producing color blind friendly maps, by importing their map into Vischeck.
Overall, I enjoyed the lab but had some issues with exporting the map via ArcGIS. For some reason, the exported version of the map did not match the layout on my screen. The exported version produced a poor map with labels overlapping the symbols. After several hours of troubleshooting, I finally decided to take a screenshot of it to preserve the correct version of my map (see below).
