Coastal Flooding - Mod 4

This week, we learned about different procedures when conducting a coastal flooding assessment.  When I first started this module, I was excited to learn more about the topic. Using GIS to determine coastal impacts after a natural disaster such as a hurricane or flood has always been something I've wanted to learn about.  One of the biggest lessons learned for me this week is the methodologies and assumptions that were used for the coastal flooding assessments in our lab assignment.

While I did learn more about coastal flooding assessments this week, I had some challenges with this week's lab. This week, I experienced more difficulties with this lab than any previous lab in the GIS Admin program. My challenges this week were a mixture of technical problems and misunderstanding the reasoning behind some of the lab instructions.

Some examples of technical issues I experienced included: ArcGIS not allowing me to turn on specialized licenses to run tools because the software thought I was running duplicate instances and ArcGIS not recognizing the DEMs in Analysis Part 3. I eventually figured these things out - but it took me much more time than usual to troubleshoot those issues.

Below is one of the maps we completed for this week.  This map shows how Hurricane Sandy adversely impacted Cape May County, New Jersey.
