Project Background:
Florida Power and Light (FPL) proposed to install new 230KV Transmission Lines (electrical power) on lands situated in both Manatee and Sarasota Counties in Florida. Understandably, local and environmental impact studies were deemed necessary. Stakeholders had concerns such as: negative impacts to conservation areas and wetlands, electromagnetic interference, and other potential impacts to schools, day care facilities, and residential properties. FPL conducted research, which included input from public stakeholders. FPL sent many surveys, held several open house events, and was responsive to stakeholder’s questions posed via phone, e-mail, and letters.
The purpose of this project was to determine if the "Preferred Corridor" was a suitable area for installation of the transmission lines. Four objectives were identified to include:
► Objective 1: Define and Quantify Environmentally Sensitive Lands Imposed by
Transmission Line
Objective 2: Quantify Homes Within Proximity of The Transmission Line
Objective 3: Define Schools and Daycares within Transmission Line
Objective 4: Quantify Length and Cost of Transmission Line
